Cuchulainn 2020
Our
senior teams were back on the field at the start of March & players were
getting prepared to field in the Senior Men’s, Ladies & Mixed
Competitions. Unfortunately, starting our season at this time was not to
be and Instead of training sessions and matches, we became accustomed to locked
sports grounds, hand sanitisers and masks due to Covid.
With
new Guidelines, Health Questionnaires and Covid Officers in place our season
kicked off on the 2nd of
August with our Senior Men’s first pitch in of the year against The
Heath. Our Ladies & Mixed teams started their season on the 16th of August when
Adamstown came to Ballon for a triple header.
Our
Men & Mixed teams narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot losing to
Limekiln in the deciding fixture. This year saw the introduction of an
Intermediate Championship for the Ladies & Mixed Competitions. Our
Ladies secured their position in the Senior Championship for 2021 after playing
out a relegation game in October against Barntown Gaels in what can only be described
as the worst weather conditions for any team to field during. Some said we
should always play in those conditions as it was one of our best performances
all year! Best of luck for 2021 to Barntown Gaels, they will certainly be
missed from the Senior Championship and hopefully we will meet on the field
once again. Along with our
competitive games we also had a number of friendly games with our neighbouring
club Fenagh a newly formed club in Carlow – this was great as it kept rounders
active in between competition games and kept the interest among players.
Unfortutnately following a decision from Ard
Chomhairle our Juvenile competitions didn’t take place during 2020 and as a
Club we made the decision not to continue with training for our Juveniles for
health and safety reasons. We hope for the coming 2021 season that our Juvenile
players can get back out onto the field of play, as these players are the
future of all our clubs and missing the Feile Competitions was definitely a
huge disappointment for them.
A
huge Thank you to all Ard Comhairle members, referees and
umpires who worked tirelessly throughout 2020 to ensure that Senior &
Intermediate Championships could be played this year and also clubs who made
their pitches available to get games played safely.
Finally,
Thank you to our players, who adapted to all the new guidelines and
restrictions in order for us all to enjoy the game we love so much for what was
an ever changing season.
Our
club would not survive without the ongoing support from our committee, parents
of our juveniles, our sponsors & the help of the community, for this we are
greatly appreciative.
