In game week 3, we traveled to Mullahoran, Cavan, on the 29th of April. Breaffy made a return to our Men's competition, for the first time in over two decades, facing host club Erne Eagles. Ulsters Daryl Dolan, was top scorer in this game & the only player to get home every time he was called to bat. Breaffy's David Mulderry wasn't far behind touching all bases 3 times. Man of the match went to Mayo's Colm Jordan for his outstanding performance in L.O.F. Game finished 15-7 to Eagles.
Both club's faced off in Mixed next. 4-4 after the first, this set the tone for the whole game, with little separating either side for the five innings, finishing 10 all. Steven Jordan had a dominant performance in Short Stop for the Mayo team, while Eagles, Ollie Fitzsimons showed why he is a three time Allstar.
Ladies championship was next, the Breaffy side took control of the game after the second innings. Connacht's, Michelle Hopkins, was impressively never put out during either games she participated in. Stand out player for this game went to Mayo's, Paula Lenahan who had a spell of catches at backstop. Result after 5 innings, 17-5.
Tymon park, Dublin, was our next venue with 3 fixtures taking place. Limekiln hosted Bagenalstown in mixed first. 0-0 after the first, all was to play for. The Dublin side came to life in the 2nd, scoring 10 runs and conceding zero again. Limekiln's Chris Hughes had a great game, contributing to 6 outs for his team, not far behind was Bagenasltown's Martin Cody with 4 brilliant catches in LOF. Final result 13-6.
Like always when these two Ladies teams compete, very little separates them. Bagenalstown's Nicola Clarke was in flying form for this game, pitching some balls quicker than the Limekiln player's could blink, Nicola was also involved in 9 of the 12 outs her club needed! The Dub's, Susan Eagers had an outstanding game on 2nd base. Limekiln Ladies started their season with a win, 8-7.
Greenhills Ladies hosted St.Croans after this. Greenhills hit hard from the first innings scoring 8 & never looked back. Dublin's, Megan Tipper was never put out for her 5 at bats, while Croans, Martha Keane had a superb catch at short stop. Game finished 18-8.
We headed down south next, were Cuchulainn, Carlow, hosted Ballinagore in mixed first. Cuchulainn had a comfortable win, 27-6. Making this 3 out of 3, so far this season. Carlow's Shane Brennan had the cath of the day, in his debut game.
Ladies competition was scheduled next in Ballon. We had a very close encounter between Wexford's, Adamstown & Ballon's, Cuchulainn. The referees report show's that both teams were on par with one another. Wexford's, Susan had a great day at batting, with a flurry of catches at backstop. Adamstown secured their first ever win, on a scoreline 10-9.
Clonaslee Gaa, Laois was the place to be next, Michael Glaveys faced Clonaslee, in Ladies. Another very close encounter occured, with little separating either teams for the 5 innings. Roscommon's Anna & Maria had two magnificent double plays in Short Stop & 3rd Base, along with Fiona who had some excellent outs on 2nd base, giving Glaveys their first win of the season, 12-11.
Sean Connollys hosted their first competitive senior competition's, on Saturday 5th of May facing current Mixed & Men champions, The Heath. First up was Mixed, the Ballinalee side new they had a big challenge ahead, giving it their all. However The Heath, had a very confident squad, scoring 40 runs, with a big help from James Kavanagh's smart batting, & allowing only two home.
Men's was next. Laois' 6 time AllStar Dwayne Keane, Commanded the game as pitcher, leading his team to victory on a scoreline of 32-2.
Our last day of game week three took place in Tymon Park, Dublin were Glynn/Barntown faced Na Fianna in Mixed first. Wexford's, Kenny O' Reilly, put on a spectacular show everytime he stepped in the batters box, scoring two massive home runs. Not to be out done Na Fianna's, Ronan Gatley also hit a home run in the 5th. Game finished 42-2 to Glynn/Barntown.
The last match of game week 3, saw the above face off in Ladies. Our current CJ Haughey champions Glynn/Barntown, had a flawless game. Wexford's Short Stop, Ann Hanley had a triple play in the 5th inning's, with a catch, tag & assist to second base. "Man of the match" went to Dublin's, Evelyn Twomey in C.O.F, who had six magnificent catches, that had all spectators applauding. Final result 28-5.
