A year full of gloom, the 2020 Rounders season brought much needed laughs and smiles to our members. As like everyone else, our members had a challenging year off the field. We would like to thank all the members of the Ard Comhairle, who voted in favour of having some sort of a playing season, and for the time put in to make it happen.
Limekiln Rounders fielded three senior teams. Our men and mixed made it to the semi finals, while our ladies showed great skill in their preliminary games, producing very low scoring games.
Men’s results v Adamstown-18-11, v The Heath-8-11, v Cuchulainn-18-5, v Glynn Barntown-19-12.
Ladies results v Erne Eagles-5-8, v Adamstown-13-13, v Cuchulainn- 8-7.
Mixed results v Erne Eagles-15-19, v Adamstown-10-3, v Cuchulainn-7-4, v Glynn Barntown-10-7.
When the fixtures were released, some members were a bit overwhelmed with the amount of games scheduled for “the home of GAA Rounders†Tymon Park. I had every faith our club could pull it off, and our members did it flawlessly. We would like to thank Christy and Liam for marking the pitches, and Chris for making sure the toilets were always spotless before and after each fixture.
Our club had many highlights from this season. From our online club awards, great matches and enjoyable trainings. However, the biggest highlight was past players making their return, along with new faces making their debut. It felt like there was a new lease of life within the club, and everyone appreciated what Limekiln Rounders had to offer them this year.
Our main goal for 2021, is to get our club back to its glory days, from the not too distant past. On the top of that list is to grow our membership once again, with hopefully, new and returning players, so we can field at least one team in each competition, from underage- senior level. If we achieve this, the rest will follow.
Lastly, we would like to thank each and every member of our club for a very enjoyable “COVID seasonâ€. Special mention to Amanda Kealy, and Eileen Goggins, who took over the ladies team, and to Adam Riordan, for looking after the mixed, and to Joan, who Dettol washed the kits after every game.
We hope to see all the GAA Rounders community back in 2021.
