Minor Finals 19
Our Minor Ladies, Men's and Mixed All Ireland Finals took place on the 11th of August, in Tymon Park, Dublin. After some very close games held throughout the summer.
Our current Ladies Champions, Athenry of Galway faced 2016 Champs, Cuchulainn, Carlow. 9-5 to the Leinster side after the first, all was still to play for. Cuchulainn hit hard scoring 5-0, and Athenry retaliated in the third scoring 4-0. However, the Carlow side stepped it up a gear in the 4th scoring 7-1. Both sides drew the 5th 0-0. Cuchulainn were crowned Corn Betsi Gre Minor Ladies All Ireland Champions, 21-10. 'Man of the Match' went to Cuchulainn's, Leah Mullins, who contributed to six crucial outs on second base for her team. Special mention to Athenry's, Aileen Tarcey, who was never put out along with Carlow's, Jade Wheelan.
Our Minor Men's Final saw a rematch from 2018, with The Harps, Laois against Clonbroney, Longford. Another close encounter took place, with The Harps winning three of the five innings, Clonbroney managed to do enough damage in the two innings they won, and we had a 21 all draw after 5. The Longford side kept their opposition scoreless for the 1st of the two extra innings, scoring 6 themselves. The Laois natives couldn't match it for their last at bat, and Clonbroney became the Corn Gael Linn Minor Men's Champions for the first time ever, on a scoreline of 27-22. Laois' Conor Delaney, scored the only Home Run of the game, also securing six outs as Pitcher. Longford's, Jack Cheyne, was named 'Man of the Match' for his efforts all over the field.
The Minor Mixed Final saw Sporting Limerick, Limerick against Cuchulainn, Carlow. The Munster side had dominated their preliminary games, and weren't about to stop now. Ethan Keyes set his team alight wit a home run in the first innings. Limerick kept Cuchulainn scoreless for the first four innings, a very impressive task to achieve. This was due to sharp Pitching from Eoghan Mann and sheer determination from Shane Joyce as Catcher. Siofra Mann was named 'Man of the Match' for her efforts on first base. 19-5 was the final result, and for the first time ever the Minor Mixed trophy traveled to Munster.
